Ken Coghlan is managing partner at Rayburn Coghlan law Firm, LLC.  Among his many awards, he  has been recognized as one of the preeminent lawyers in Mississippi by Martindale-Hubbell, a peer rating service, which has given Ken the highest competency and ethical rating in his field.  Ken is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, an organization devoted to the preservation of jury trials and whose membership is limited to no more than one percent of the lawyers in each state. Ken is also a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers.  Fellowship in this organization is extended only by invitation to those experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and congeniality. There are only approximately  5,700 members  across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, and membership can never be more than one percent of the total lawyer population of a state or province.

Ken began his career as an insurance defense attorney defending individual insured and corporate defendants.  Ken began representing people charged with state and federal crimes in 1992.  For the last 24 years, Ken has had the privilege of representing clients in personal injury litigation as well as state and federal criminal cases.

Ken Coghlan

Ken has extensive experience in representing clients who face complex federal criminal litigation and he has appeared on CBS (60) minutes to lend CBS insight and expertise on criminal law.  Ken also has extensive experience at the federal appellate level.  Ken has obtained numerous defense verdicts in both civil and criminal cases for his clients.  His results include a favorable jury verdict in a federal case involving thirteen deaths.  Ken also has extensive experience with complex federal appeals and has been lead counsel in over 300 federal criminal cases and 50 cases before the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.  He has had numerous cases before the United States Court of Appeals that have been published.

Merrill King Nordstrom

Merrill King Nordstrom is an associate at Rayburn Coghlan Law Firm in Oxford, Mississippi, where her practice consists primarily in criminal defense, insurance defense, personal injury and workers’ compensation defense.  Merrill has an extensive trial practice in circuit, chancery and federal courts across North Mississippi.  She has also argued before the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.  Merrill graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 2002.  She received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Mississippi in 1997.  Upon graduating law school she clerked for Honorable David A. Chandler with the Mississippi Court of Appeals.   Merrill is a member of the Lafayette County Bar Association.  Merrill also serves on the board of the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers’ Project.
